Green Bay beat Pittsburgh to claim Super Bowl title
Green Bay have won the Super Bowl after defeating Pittsburgh.
The Packers beat the Steelers 31-25 to seal their fourth Super Bowl title in front 103,219 at the Cowboy Stadium, an attendance just short of a Super Bowl record.
It was Green Bay who drew first blood near the end of the opening quarter when quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw a 29-yard pass to receiver Jordy Nelson. That lead was doubled just 24 seconds later when Nick Collins intercepted and returned 37 yards for a touchdown.
No team in Super Bowl history had ever come from more than 10 points down to win and – although they managed to pull the score back to 21-17 after half-time – Pittsburgh were unable to write themselves into the record books.
Green Bay’s win lead to jubilant scenes with the game’s most valuable player Rodgers saying of his team’s success: “It's what I dreamt about as a little kid, watching Joe Montana and Steve Young.”
