Torres Prepared For Liverpool Reunion
In a script that could only have been written by the most sadistic of football fans, former Anfield hero Fernando Torres is set to make his debut against his former club less than a week after making an acrimonious £50 million switch to Chelsea.
Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday on the back of an improved run of form in the Premier League that has seen them climb to seventh in the table, but the Merseyside club are bracing themselves for the return of Torres, who will feature.
The Spanish international forward has irked large sections of the Liverpool support since his move south, both by exclaiming his joy at signing for a “big club” like Chelsea and declaring that it is his “destiny” to score against his former employers.
Certainly then, we can expect Torres to receive a hostile reception from the visiting fans and indeed the Liverpool team themselves – a reception that is likely to be made all the more intimidating by the return of Jamie Carragher to the Reds starting line-up.
However, Chelsea are showing signs that their mid-season blip is behind them and are now starting to create chances at will, so it is likely that Torres will receive good service on his debut and the striker is rate at 4/1 with Bet365.com to find the net first.
If the forward does so it will no doubt break Liverpool hearts, but with the race for the Premier League title heating up, a Torres-inspired win in this blockbuster fixture will certainly signal the arrival of a new fan favourite in West London.
