Fish and Chip shop awarded for its bingo games
An Aberdeen fish and chip shop has won an award for the regular bingo games it hosts as a means of fundraising.
The Ashvale Fish and Chip Restaurant was recognised for its contribution to the local community due to the bingo games it regularly hosts to raise money for charity.
The National Fish and Chip Awards took place in London and were hosted by food critic Jay Rayner. The Contribution to the Local Community award is sponsored by Nortech Foods, with spokesman Gary Lewis saying they recognised the work the Aberdeen chip shop did and praised their unique approach to fundraising, as well as raising awareness within their community.
Other restaurants up for the same award were Elite Fish & Chips in Lincoln and Andy’s Fish Bar in Melton Mowbray; however, the Ashvale Fish and Chip Restaurant were awarded the prize, not only for their bingo games, but also for hosting quiz and race nights, sponsoring a local football team and providing raffle prizes for local competitions.
