Australian Open update: Djokovic reaches final
Novak Djokovic is through to the Australian Open final after defeating defending champion Roger Federer in the first semi.
The 23-year-old Serb battled to a 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 6-4 victory over the Swiss world number two and number two seed. The first set went to a tie-break after both men dominated on serve, while the latter two were much less straightforward with break points aplenty. After the best part of 3 hours play Djokovic eventually triumphed, booking his place in the final to meet either Andy Murray or David Ferrer, who face each other in the second semi-final on Friday morning.
Reacting to his victory, Djokovic said: "It's one of the best matches I've played in a while. I had to take my chances. In the second set I was a break up but in 20 minutes I was 5-2 down. If I lost that set God knows where it would have gone. But I played some of my best tennis to win on this great arena."
Bet365 make Djokovic the 4/6 favourite to win the overall tournament, with Murray priced at 6/4 and Ferrer at 11/1.
