Australian Open: Nadal makes easy progress
Rafael Nadal cruised into the Australian Open third round with a straightforward victory over qualifier Ryan Sweeting.
The world number one saw off the American 6-2 6-1 6-1 to book a clash with Australian Bernard Tomic. It took the Spaniard just one hour and 40 minutes to seal the win and afterwards he revealed that he has been happy with his performance.
"I think I played a solid match," said the top seed. "A few mistakes with the backhand, that's all. The serve improved a lot since the first day. I think I was serving very well today."
Bet365 make Nadal the 1/100 favourite for the Tomic clash, with his opponent offered at 14/1. Boylesports have Nadal and Roger Federer as the 8/5 joint favourites to win the overall tournament, followed by Novak Djokovic t 6/1 and Britain’s Andy Murray at 7/1. Murray faces Ukrainian Illya Marchenko in the second round.
