New Pro Poker League Set To Be Invitation Only
A new professional poker league scheduled to begin in Las Vegas later this year will officially be invitation only, the Las Vegas Review Journal revealed earlier this week.
The new league, which is the brainchild of former World Series of Poker commissioner Jeffrey Pollack and Annie Duke, will reportedly require player to earn their place through consistent performance on the other major American poker tours.
The system will follow a model that is very similar to golf’s PGA Tour and use a formula that takes into consideration a player’s major titles, career and earnings and recent successes before determining whether or not they are eligible to compete.
Eight-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Erik Seidel hailed the innovative new tour plans, saying “It has been a long time coming for a poker league on par with other professional sports. I am looking forward to true excellence being rewarded”.
The league is scheduled to kick-off in summer this year, when three of the four stops will be played between August and September before a fourth and final tournament is played in January 2012. All of the events will be held at Vegas’ Palm Beach Resort.
