Manchester United to Put the Final Bullet in Hodgson’s Tenure?
Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester United take on Liverpool this weekend in the pick of the FA Cup Third Round ties with fans of the Merseyside club knowing that one more defeat could finally see the end of Roy Hodgson’s Anfield reign.
Unfortunately for the Reds – or fortunately depending your stance on the current Liverpool management – the bookies have named the visitors as rank outsiders for the trip to Old Trafford and have named them as 5/1 underdogs to get an invaluable win.
A positive note for Liverpool fans may be that while Sir Alex Ferguson would previously have put out his strongest team for the FA Cup, this season his priorities may lie elsewhere as his side attempts to wrest control of the Premier League title.
As such he may opt to rest a number of key players and give a run out to some of the more fringe members of the team which, while a fairly damning indictment for how far Liverpool have fallen, should at least give them some chance of sneaking a win.
The bad news, however, is that regardless of the team Ferguson fields, Liverpool’s form has been absolutely woeful on their travels – much like Fulham under Hodgson – and they will have to seriously improve on their 3-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers.
Certainly, whatever vague hopes Liverpool have of upsetting the odds will hinge on their two most important players, Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard, and you can get 13/2 and 11/1 on each of the two grabbing the first goal respectively.
