Bellagio withdraw $25k chip after robbery
The Bellagio Casino has discontinued its standard $25k chip following an armed robbery last month.
A helmet-wearing gunman stole $1.5 million from the casino on 14 December, leading to the $25k chips being switched out at the tables within an hour. They have now been officially withdrawn in an attempt to stop the robber making money out of their stolen chip haul. Customers have until 22 April to cash any in, after which time they will become worthless
"Obviously, anyone walking around with one of the old series is going to be subject to a certain amount of questioning as to how they obtained them, assuming it isn't someone we know,” said MGM Resorts spokesman Alan Feldman. “It's pretty unusual for someone we don't know to come strolling up with a handful of $25,000 chips.”
A Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman recently confirmed that there have been no significant developments in the case.
