2011 betting markets opened
As we move into the New Year, bookmakers are giving punters a look into what the 2011 future holds by opening up special betting markets that include a series of novelty bets for the new year. There are various markets to bet on, including the most popular baby names and top-grossing films to name just two.
The second instalment of the final Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II is currently the favourite to have the biggest box office success at 4/9, followed by Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at 2/1.
The most popular names are Jack and Olivia, both with odds of 10/11. The next most popular boys’ names are Harry at 12/1, and Alfie at 14/1. For the girls, it’s Ruby at 9/4 and Sophie at 10/1.
There are also more controversial bets, such as the most likely band to separate, with Girls Aloud topping the list at 8/11, with the Sugababes and Kings of Leon second with odds of 4/1 each. Other celebrity markets also include Paddy Power offering the most orange fake tan of 2011, with Katie Price at 9/2 and Strictly Come Dancing and rugby player Gavin Henson at 6/1.
It already promises to be an action-packed year from start to end. If you want more reasons why 2011 is a great year for the gambler, check out the latest edition of Gambling magazine, where you can see for yourself in our Top 50 for 2011.
