Arsenal and Chelsea to Serve up Christmas Cracker

27/12/2010
The Premier League may be preparing for a Boxing Day bonanza, but it is Arsenal’s home clash with Chelsea on Monday that looks set to be the real Christmas cracker during the festive period.

The Gunners entertain Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the day’s only kick-off at 20.00 and will be hoping to turn around a wretched recent run against the Blues in which Didier Drogba has been a constant thorn in their side.

However, if there’s ever a time to play Chelsea it’s now, with the team having drawn their last three games and failed to win in their last five – unquestionably their sketchiest run of form in recent history and a sign that they are vulnerable.

Arsene Wenger’s men will also be boosted by the fact that several key players will be fit enough to play at least some part in the tie, with Dutch striker Robin van Persie returning from injury alongside winger Theo Walcott and captain Cesc Fabregas.

With the trio still struggling for match fitness, it is not yet clear how big a role each of them will play in the tie, but certainly having that pool of talent to draw on will aid Arsenal’s quest for three points no end and make them an attractive proposition at 8/5.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will be hoping that they can once again bully Arsenal out of the game with their superior strength and more direct approach; and their strikers should enjoy far more service now that the talismanic Frank Lampard is back in the side.

As such the 9/5 available on an away win with Bet365.com shouldn’t be sniffed at either, while those of a Manchester persuasion will no doubt be steaming into a 1-1 score draw at fives. Whatever the score, for fans of all three teams and the neutrals alike let’s just hope that this one is no Christmas turkey.
