Regulated online poker reaches North America
The first regulated online poker network in North America has launched.
The Canadian Poker Network is a joint venture between GTECH G2 and Loto-Quebec and will be accessible via Loto-Quebec’s Espacejeux.com website, but only to Quebec residents. A range of poker formats will be featured including Texas hold’em and Canadian stud, a variant of five card stud that includes extra hands in the rankings. The contract between GTECH G2 and Loto-Quebec is to last five years and includes two options for two-year extensions. Espacejeux.com went live on 19 November with real money bets accepted from 1 December. The site offers a range of casino games and is available in both English and French.
GTECH G2 president Paolo Personeni said of the launch: “This is a major milestone for the lottery and iGaming industries. We're very proud to be involved with such a highly-regarded WLA member in establishing the first regulated poker network in North America."
