Diego Maradona in Blackburn link

14/12/2010
Diego Maradona has emerged as a surprise candidate for the vacant Blackburn Rovers job.

Sam Allardyce was sacked as Rovers manager on Tuesday, with Bet365 immediately installing former Tottenham and Ajax boss Martin Jol as 2/1 favourite to replace him. Jol’s position in the betting is hardly a surprise, but it’s former Argentina coach Maradona’s availability at 9/1 that will certainly raise eyebrows. The diminutive South American is 9/1 joint second favourite along with Cardiff’s Dave Jones.

Next in the betting comes recently-dismissed Newcastle gaffer Chris Hughton at 10/1, followed by Martin O’Neill at 12/1, the Northern Irishman having been out of work since leaving Aston Villa on the eve of this season. Alan Curbishley is also available at 12/1, closely followed by Leicester boss Sven Goran Eriksson at 14/1.

As for Allardyce’s future, Bet365 are offering 15/8 that Big Sam’s next job is at Wolves, with West Ham offered at 2/1 and Fulham at 7/1.
