Aussies make Ashes changes ahead of third test
Australia have made some surprise changes for the upcoming third Ashes test.
The Aussies go into next Thursday’s Perth contest 1-0 down following their innings defeat against England in Adelaide and have made changes to both their bowling and batting line-ups
Spinners Michael Beer and Steve Smith have been drafted into a 12-man squad, as have fast bowlers Ben Hilfenhaus and Mitchell Johnson. Marcus North, Doug Bollinger and Xavier Doherty have all been dropped. Opening batsman Phillip Hughes has been called up in place of the injured Simon Katich.
Beer’s inclusion is the biggest surprise, the 26-year-old having only made five first-class appearances in his career to date. Discussing the shock move, Australia's chairman of selectors, Andrew Hilditch, said: "Michael is a left-arm orthodox spinner who has been very impressive at domestic level this year. He took wickets against England in the tour match earlier this summer and we expect he will bowl very well against the English on his home ground."
Bet365 make England the 6/4 favourites for the third test, with Australia priced at 21/10 and the draw available at 2/1.
