Alan Pardew named as Newcastle boss
Alan Pardew has been appointed as the new manager of Newcastle United.
The 49-year-old former West Ham boss has signed a five-and-a-half-year deal, replacing Chris Hughton who was controversially sacked earlier this week. Pardew’s last managerial role ended in August when he was dismissed by Southampton, another decision that was questioned at the time by fans and pundits alike.
Speaking about his appointment, Pardew said: "I am honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity at one of the truly great clubs in English football.”
His first game in charge is a tough test at home to Liverpool this coming Saturday, with Bet365 making his side 14/5 underdogs for the contest. Liverpool are offered at evens and the draw is priced at 12/5.
Newcastle currently sit 12th in the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship last season. They’ve gained 19 points from 16 games so far, scoring 24 goals and conceding 25.
