Woeful Christmas TV Schedule Drives Brits to Online Gambling
Online gambling is set to peak over the festive period as hundreds of thousands of Brits look to escape the monotony of Christmas TV re-runs in favour of turning to their favourite online casino for entertainment.
UK-based online casino 32Red.com experienced a similar phenomenon this time last year when traffic peaked on Christmas day and are expecting an even bigger surge in players following the introduction of a new real-money blackjack app this time.
Their predictions are hardly unbelievable either, given that last year the nation heaved a collective sigh when TV schedules detailing over 750 hours of repeats were released and this year that figure is apparently set to grow even further to a record 860 hours.
“We've seen a surge in mobile activity generally and during last year's holiday period this peaked on Christmas Day,” said Ed Ware, chief executive of 32Red plc. “We'd wondered if there would be a drop in the number of players while people tucked into their turkeys and gathered round the TV with family but the opposite happened”.
“We can only think people are getting fed up with watching TV reruns and choose to play our mobile casino instead. I guess the chance of winning a hand of blackjack, or even our Mega Moolah mobile slot with its £1million jackpot is more appealing than seeing Dell Boy again!” he added.
