UKIPT Galway falls victim to snow
Even the poker world has been unable to escape the effects of the snow this week, as the opening day of a tournament in Ireland was postponed due to the poor weather conditions.
Day 1 of the UKIPT Galway has been put back a day after blizzards in western Ireland caused chaos on the roads and across the public transport network. The decision was taken when tournament sponsors PokerStars realised that many players were unable to get to the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa on time. A €10,000 freeroll is to be held instead for the players who did manage to make it to the venue.
Spokeswoman Kirsty Thompson said of the decision: "We are very sorry to have to postpone the event by one day, but it is the most sensible and fair option. So many of our players would have had great difficulty getting here on time for the scheduled start."
