La Liga Atletico Madrid to sell Segio Aguero
Struggling La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid are reported to have put their prize asset, Argentina forward Sergio Aguero up for sale. The news is likely to spark a huge auction with English football’s top clubs desperate to add him to their ranks. Chelsea are long time admirers and have reportedly attempted to entice ‘Kun’, as he is nicknamed, to Stamford Bridge, but will face competition from Manchester City and perhaps even Manchester United.
Atletico are reported to have Argentine Premier League star Eduardo Salvio of Club Atletico Lanus in the sights as a long term replacement for Aguero. Chelsea’s interest in Aguero has recently been rekindled after it turned out that they would, in fact, be allowed to sign players in this January’s transfer window. Aguero could very well be Ancelotti’s first big name signing as the London club seeks to reinforce their squad for the upcoming African Nations cup in which 4 of their players, Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, Jon Obi Mikel and Salomon Kalou are playing in. However, it is believed that Roman Abramovich wants to cap his wages so as to avoid unsettling the dressing room.
The struggling Spanish side, recently eliminated from the Champions League will be hoping that interest from the two Manchester clubs will materialize, forcing the price of their player up. Manchester City have sanctioned a recruitment drive under new manager Roberto Mancini and Manchester United could be tempted into the market considering their lack of striking prowess in the campaign so far. The fee Atletico would demand is thought to be particularly high and could reach €40 million. Furthermore it is reported that the Argentinean’s wage demands are also particularly high so there is no guarantee that an amicable settlement will be reached in this window.
