Poker Pros On Form In Sunday Majors
Relative unknown “ran77” may have won the biggest score of the weekend for taking down the PokerStars.com Sunday Million, but it was a good couple of days for a host of big-name pros across the virtual felt too.
The PokerStars player pocketed a cool $238,685.72 for taking down the site’s flagship Sunday major after defeating “SeraphimV” heads-up, but the event was perhaps more notable for the presence of Jon “PearlJammer” Turner at the final table.
The online pro and PokerVT instructor was undoubtedly the biggest name at the final table, but unfortunately for Turner, he lost a coinflip to ultimately crash out in sixth place for just shy of $70,000. Meanwhile, another notable who fell just short of the big money was Michael “ShiFtYFiNGeR” Guzzardi, who finished 14th for $6,814.54.
It was a different story in the Sunday Warm-Up, however, as two-time WSOP bracelet-winner Ryan “ely_cash41” Hughes showed his class to overcome a final table that included notable online players Alexander “skalexjung” Jung and Billy “Patrolman35” Kopp to get his hands on the $126,259 first-place prize money.
With Jung and Kopp crashing out in eighth and ninth place respectively, Hughes was left pitted against a largely unknown field of opponents – and his superior experience told as he edged out Ryan “AceKicker_19” McClean to seal the win after the top three players agreed a deal to share the majority of the prize pool.
