World waits in anticipation of World Cup 2010 draw
The draw for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa takes place this Friday, with FIFA confirming England will be seeded for the draw meaning they will avoid the likes of favorites Brazil and Spain in the group stage.
The other nations seeded in Pot 1 include Argentina, Germany, the Netherlands, holders Italy and hosts South Africa.
Although England are ranked just outside the top eight in FIFA’s world rankings, their strong qualifying campaign combined with France and Portugal’s stuttering one means England make the top seeds for the second World Cup in a row.
All the top seeds will however be wary of the threat from the teams in pots below them.
BBC Radio 5 Live's sports news correspondent Gordon Farquhar said: "Portugal and France are the dangerous floaters in Friday's draw."
Bookmakers Paddy Power have Spain as favourites to lift the trophy (9/2), followed by Brazil (5/1) and then England at 6/1. Other odds include hosts South Africa (100/1) and the USA at 66/1.
