Online Poker to use "Cut N' Shuffle" Technology

2/12/2009
“This site is rigged.” “Only on Jokerstars.” “Aces never win on this site.” Just some of the cries ringing out from the uneducated (or brain dead) cyber warriors that frequent the various poker forums and online poker sites. Misunderstanding the nature of variance is commonplace amongst low stakes poker players but that doesn’t mean that random number generators (RNG) are fixed.

Indeed, with the stringent laws governing them they are just about as random as random can be. However, having said this, one site looking to add a touch of innovation to the online poker world is Real Deal Poke. The new site is set to utilise Gioia Gaming System’s “Cut N’ Shuffle technology” which replaces the RNG system in favour of a more realistic shuffle. Each card is shuffled as if by a dealer and the players are offered the chance to cut the deck at a place of their choosing. Each bar-coded card is then scanned as they are dealt complete with burn cards. To safeguard against any accusations of cheating the players are given the option to audit and verify each game after it has finished to both check the legitimacy of the shuffles and to satisfy their own pessimistic tendencies.

The fairness of RNG shuffling is by no means in questions and Cut N’ Shuffle is unlikely to replace it but what this new system does it provide players with an alternative and in a market based on trust that can only be a good thing.
