GUKPT Final Underway
The UK’s premier poker tour comes to a climax this weekend with the GUKPT Grand Final playing out at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino in London. Throughout the year the GUKPT has attracted some of the best poker talent the UK has to offer with big name winners such as Karl Mahrenholz and Richard Gryko both taking titles.
Undoubtedly though, the biggest fairytale story of the season was Manchester winner Simon Moorman. Simon is the father of online tournament phenom and latest Doyle’s Room recruit Chris “Moorman1” Moorman and was bought into the tournament by Chris as a birthday present.
Competing in his first live tournament he went on to win £88,630 much to the annoyance of his son who has yet to see his online success translate into a major live victory.
With all the major players currently in London, the GUKPT’s penultimate festival of the year has already seen Richard Gryko claim two wins a move closer to the player of the year title. Just days after winning the £1000 event Gryko went on to take down the GUKPT Heads-Up Championship title and the £20,000 first place prize money. Hitsquad member Karl Mahrenholz has also enjoyed success so far taking down the £500 Omaha event and the £300 No Limit Hold’em event.
With the main event set to kick off today both players will be looking to continue their fine run of form and take down the tours main event title. Indeed, whoever tastes victory in this event will book the final place in the forthcoming GUKPT Champion of Champions tournament.
