Jenson Button to join McLaren to form all British team with Lewis Hamilton
According to reports today Jenson Button has agreed a 3 year deal with McLaren after talks with his current team Brawn GP have broken down after a salary dispute.
At the end of last year Jenson Button took a pay cut after Honda withdrew their F1 team leaving Button without a team to race for but Brawn GP took over and kept the British driver on. Button then went on to have an immense start to the season and sealed his first ever F1 Championship title with 2 races remaining.
Since the end of the season Brawn GP has been taken over by Mercedes and will be renamed to Mercedes Grand Prix.
Jenson Button maybe making the move to McLaren purely for financial gain but his performances may now suffer as a result of the move. McLaren have built the team around their number 1 driver Lewis Hamilton which could cause rifts between the two if things don’t go well for both drivers.
Hamilton is confident that next season he and McLaren would be in strong contention to re-take the title from Button.
