WSOPE Main Event Goes Into Day 4
Fans of poker legends, young phenoms and British stars were all placated last night as the WSOPE Main Event reached the money stages in London.
The £10,000 buy-in event, currently being held at Leicester Square’s Empire Casino, reached its 36-player money list late on Wednesday night with figures such as Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, WPT World Champion Yevgeniy Timoshenko, and Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott all in the cash.
The unlucky ‘bubble boy’ was none other than Welshman John Tabatabai, runner-up here in 2007, who, despite being ill from a suspected insect bite, managed to fight his way to the bubble before succumbing to the pocket 7s of fellow Brit, Peter Gould. Tabatabai’s aces were tripped up on the board as Gould spiked another 7, and with that, the remaining players were all in the money.
The chip leader going into the new day was Matt Hawrilenko, an American player who, at the age of 27, made his first million this year after taking down a bracelet at the World Series of Poker. He takes over chip leading duties from Ian Munns, a Brit who, despite leading the previous day’s stacks, busted out midway through Day 3.
