Sol Campbell quits after just one match at Notts County
Sol Campbell has walked out of his 5 year contract with Notts County after playing just one match at the weekend. Notts County agreed to a fee of £40,000 a week in return for the former Arsenal and Tottenham defender.
The Magpies executive chairman Peter Trembling has confirmed the departure of Campbell and hinted that he is still hoping to be called up to Fabio Capello for a return to the national team.
Campbell will not be able to sign for another team until the January transfer window which will see him without a professional match for at least 4 months which in the run up to World Cup 2010 and his attempt to re-join the international team to play is doubtful.
Aged 35 many saw Campbell’s surprise signing for Notts County as him winding down his career ready for retirement and to take on training projects.
Trembling added that any fans who bought the new strip and had Campbell printed on it would be able to swap it for a new one.
