Casino gambling revenue drops in Mississippi
After strong July figures were released, which led many to believe a turn-around was on the horizon have been left stunned after August figures show a drop of almost 10%.
The Mississippi State Tax Commission released the official figures yesterday at $206 million down from $224.4 million on the previous month and $238.2 million on August 2008.
Many states have used the recession to change out-dated gambling laws and have started casinos to aid with survival during the recession. But this has led to the existing casinos to bring in enough revenue themselves.
The drop in revenue was seen across the state from casinos based on the Mississippi river to casinos in the city.
