Online gambling company Betfair have Annette Obrestad ad banned
A ban has been imposed on an advert from Betfair which showed 20 year old, Annette Obrestad, as they used her online alias “Annette_15” which was seen to imply she was just 15 years old.
The ad which contained the line “Online experience is measured in games, not years. Join the new breed. Annette_15” was complained about to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) after it was distributed as an email. It was seen by the ASA that the ad would encourage youngsters to play poker and is irresponsible.
Betfair have said that the ad did not and was not aimed at under 18-year-olds in the UK. Betfair use strict measure to ensure that under 18’s would not be allowed to gamble on the site and Obrestad was used due to her success as a professional poker player after winning the WSOPE in 2006 which shot her to poker fame.
Betfair have stated that they would not be using Obrestad in their marketing again for the UK market. The ASA also took the opportunity to re-enforce the rule that no one under the age of 25 should appear in any gambling marketing.
