Denmark Court seizes Poker Player’s winnings
In Denmark today the Supreme Court has taken the decision to seize one the winnings spanning a year of one online poker player. The man who has not been named was made to hand over $28,000 to the state.
In Denmark it is illegal for any of their citizens to make their entire living from playing poker or any form of gambling and it had come to light that the man had no other income.
Earlier this year another man was convicted for arranging poker tournaments as his job but the fine was later overturned as whether or not the law covered setting up poker tournaments or even playing online poker were covered – despite the Supreme Court remaining defiant that it does.
Prosecutors in Denmark have been quick to state that playing poker online in the country itself is not illegal and that they will judge each case separately as to determine whether the player is playing professionally.
