Chelsea FC banned from signing new players until 2011 by FIFA
FIFA have found Chelsea FC guilty of illegally enticing French youngster Gaël Kakuta to sign for the club in 2007.
The club has been banned from signing any new players until January 2011 missing January 2010 transfer window and next summer’s window. Kakuta has also been fined €780,000 after his previous club FC Lens complained.
The statement said "A restriction of four months on his eligibility to play in official matches is imposed on the player Gaël Kakuta while the club FC Chelsea is banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, for the two next entire and consecutive registration periods following the notification of the present decision." Chelsea must also pay €130,000 to FC Lens in compensation.
At just 18, Kakuta, was named as scholar of the year of the academy team after finishing the 2008 season as top goal scorer.
Chelsea can appeal against the restrictions and fines and will most likely do so due to the severity.
