PokerStars’ World Championship of Online Poker Ready For Kick-Off
PokerStars, the world’s biggest online poker site, are busy gearing up for the year’s biggest online poker series as the 2009 World Championship of Online Poker officially gets underway today.
This afternoon at 14.30 ET the very first of 45 tournaments spanning from September 3-20 will kick-off as thousands of runners compete for a $1.25 million guaranteed prize pool in the $215 buy-in NL Hold’em Six-Max event.
Hosted by PokerStars pro Andre Akarri, the event is expected to attract hundreds of online poker’s leading players, who will take their place alongside PokerStars satellite qualifiers and big-name pros in a bid to capture the first title of the new series.
The Main Event of the 2009 WCOOP begins on the series’ final day, where a staggering $10 million guaranteed prize pool will be up for grabs in the two-day, $5,200 buy-in no limit Hold’em tournament.
Other indisputable highlights of the 2009 series include the $10,300 buy-in High Roller NL Hold’em event hosted by Vanessa Rousso on September 6 and High Roller H.O.R.S.E. event running on the same day as the Main Event.
In total, across the 45 events PokerStars will be giving away a total of $40 million in guaranteed prize pools, making it the richest series in the history of online poker. Satellites for all of the tournaments are still running in the site, with players able to take their shot at huge prizes from as little as $1.
