Online poker site PokerStars Shatter Guinness World Record
The world’s largest poker site, PokerStars.com, successfully smashed its own world record last month after officially hosting the ‘Largest Online Poker Tournament’ as certified by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Having already set the benchmark back in 2008 when 35,000 players fired up their computers and took to the virtual felt, on Sunday 19 July, Stars held an online multi-table tournament that attracted an incredible opening field of 65,000 players.
Players from 155 nations across the world came together to compete in the event which, despite costing just $1 to enter, boasted a guaranteed prize pool of $130,000 after Stars matched the initial $65,000 raised in entry fees as an extra incentive.
Ultimately, 16,250 players cashed in the tournament, with the $13,000 first prize going to California’s ‘004 license’. “Having played at many other poker sites, I’m very glad I settled on PokerStars as the only site I play on,” said ‘004 license’ after securing his record-breaking win.
