Poker Pro Phil Hellmuth arrives in style
Having arrived at the World Series of Poker Main Event in spectacular fashion for the past few years, Phil Hellmuth is becoming as synonymous with overblown entrances to major tournaments as he is with actually winning them.
Observers at last year’s event must have agreed that it would take something special to surpass the Poker Brat’s 2008 curtain-raiser, where the Hold ‘em ace arrived in full military dress, accompanied by a platoon of scantily-clad women.
However, incredibly Hellmuth managed it this year after arriving at the Rio Casino riding atop a chariot dressed as Julius Caesar. His accompanying entourage numbered over 100 people and included Roman soldiers and petal-throwing muses clad only in body paint.
“This was my biggest entrance yet and with 11 WSOP bracelets under my belt, I think it’s pretty fitting to be honest” a beaming Hellmuth told local reporters after making his grand entrance.
Hellmuth will certainly be pleased that there was no repeat of his 2007 fiasco, where another spectacular entrance went spectacularly wrong after he crashed a NASCAR racer outside the Rio, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damages.
The Brat’s time at the Main Event, meanwhile, was somewhat less memorable than his arrival after he bowed out on Day 4 in 436th place.
