Maxim Lykov Wins Pokerstars European Poker Tour (EPT) Kiev
Despite a last minute change of location, the opening leg on the new season of the European Poker Tour has finished with Maxim Lykov outlasting a field of 296 to win the title and €330,000 first prize.
The event turned out to be a truly international affair, with players from 33 countries gathering for the newest addition to the EPT calendar. The final table also benefitted from a truly carnival feel, with the climax of the tournament coming on Ukrainian Flag Day.
The final table itself was packed with drama too, with big stack Vadim Markushevski suffering horrible luck when running his pocket kings into the aces of the only man on the table to have the Belarussian covered.
Eventually winner Maxim Lykov gained momentum by sending two opponents in a row to the rail before playing a more nip-and-tuck style, navigating his way to heads-up against Alexander Dovzhenko. The final hand saw Do vzhenko send his final chips into the middle on the turn of a 4-J-7-4 board, only to find his J-T had been overtaken by the turned trips of Lykov and his 4-9.
