Tom "Durrr" Dwan Throws Down the Gauntlet with Million Dollar Poker Challenge
Following on from a two month lull in his online cash battle against Patrik Antonius, internet sensation Tom “Durrr” Dwan has announced that he will launch an all-new challenge in the live arena.
The Durrr Million Dollar Challenge will see four competitors face-off against Dwan in a series of televised heads-up bouts in London this September. All challengers will be required to put up $500,000 to enter, with the challenge not ending until one player has lost their entire buy-in or 500 hands of either No Limit Hold’em or Pot Limit Omaha have been successfully completed.
Dwan’s first opponent in the Million Dollar Challenge has already been confirmed, with London businessman and poker enthusiast, Sammy George, the first player to step up to the plate. Although not familiar with the majority of US poker fans, the man nicknamed “Any Two” has played in televised poker games across Europe including The Big Game and Ladbrokes’ Poker Million.
Rightfully seen as an underdog in the match, George was nevertheless in bullish mood after accepting the challenge, describing Durrr as “nothing special” and announcing that the vast sums of money involved would not phase him. “I’m stepping up to the plate and putting my money where my mouth is,” said George. “It will be an honour to represent my country against the best the US has to offer.”
Certainly, if Dwan’s ongoing challenge against Antonius is anything to go by, the Londoner will have his work cut out for him come September. Dwan currently leads his Finnish opponent by over $700,000 in the online heads-up cash challenge with nearly half of the required 50,000 hands having been played.
As of yet, no other challengers have accepted Durrr’s offer to participate in the Million Dollar Challenge.
