Villa Park will not host any 2012 Olympic football matches
Home of Aston Villa FC, Villa Park, has been removed from the list of stadiums fit to host matches during the 2012 London Olympics as the club has decided that they will be continuing with plans to carry out major construction work.
The London 2012 has said that they have come to the decision that as Villa cannot make a definite commitment to the Olympics they have had to be removed from the shortlist.
A replacement stadium needs to now be found to join the current line-up of Old Trafford, Hampden Park, the Millennium Stadium and St James Park.
The Olympic requirements are that everyone must be seated and have a capacity of 30,000. Birmingham, Derby and Leicester are in strong contention to take the place of Villa.
