WSOP Bracelet for UltimateBet’s Brandon Cantu
American star Brandon Cantu has won in Event #48 to take home his second career bracelet from the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
Emerging triumphant from a field of 762 players in the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha eight-or-better event, the 28-year-old took home a prize of $228,867 and the gold bracelet after beating fellow professional Lee Watkinson heads-up.
He will now be hoping to better his record in the WSOP Main Event after finishing 20th out of 6,844 in 2008, when Dane Peter Eastgate was eventually crowned world champion. With a potential grand prize of around $9 million this year, Cantu certainly has the potential to vastly improve on the previous bounty of $257,334.
The victory marks an excellent period for Cantu who had already finished second in another WSOP tournament last week, picking up $403,951 in Event #39, a No Limit Hold’em event featuring 2,715 players and a buy in of $1,500. ‘The Bounty Hunter’, as he is known, is also one of only 27 players ever to win both a World Series of Poker bracelet and a World Poker Tour championship.
The WSOP will be running at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas until 15th July, when the 2009 Main Event will be whittled down to a final nine players. These nine finalists will then meet on the 7th November to determine the overall winner.
