England Through to European Championship Under-21 Semi Finals
Two goals from Frazier Campbell and James Milner saw England beat pre-tournament favourites Spain 2-0 to reach the semi-finals of the European Championship.
Campbell, who is on the verge of signing for Hull, opened the scoring from 18 yards to send England 1-0 up. A second half appearance from Theo Walcott was more fruitful for the Arsenal winger than his largely disappointing game against Finland as he turned provider for James Milner to net the second of the game.
The Spanish side had been disappointing on the whole, with Barcelona wonderkid Bojan anonymous throughout. England manager Stuart Pearce was delighted with the way in which his team secured the win against the Spaniards. “I'm pleased we're through, but I'm not surprised because I know the character of these boys and it was a gutsy performance,” said Pearce.
England have now been made the 2/1 favourites to lift the trophy, with Italy and Germany joint second favourites at 4/1. For those who want to have a punt on the top scorer in the tournament should get their money on Marcus Berg, who grabbed a hat trick in Sweden’s 5-1 drubbing of Belarus. Available at 5/4, Berg has a two-goal head start on his competitors.
