US Department of Justice freezes $33 million in poker accounts
It has been confirmed yesterday that the DoJ has seized three bank accounts used by online poker sites Full Tilt, PokerStars and another un-named site.
The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has said that there could be as much as $33 million frozen in the accounts. 24,000 customer accounts at the three sites are said to be effected.
The three banks that are used by the poker sites are Citibank, Goldwater Bank and Alliance Bank of Arizona. The current UIGEA law states that financial institutions cannot accept payments to settle any online wager which would mean the banks are breaking the law and not the online poker companies or its players.
For those players who were trying to retrieve their winnings from online poker look to be in for a long wait to get their hands on the cash.
