PRWeb Banned From Promoting Online Gambling
Washington-based press agency PRWeb has been issued with a Cease and Desist order preventing them from issuing press releases concerning online gambling, it emerged last weekend.
PRWeb, which offers a distribution service for business press releases, was forced to inform online gambling corporate customers that it would no longer be able to accept material from them after the Washington Gambling Commission decided that the promotion of online gambling news was in conflict with the States’ gaming laws.
“This was not a decision that PRWeb willingly made,” said Cari Lyle, PRWeb’s East Coast Manager of Editorial Services. “We received a Cease and Desist letter from the Washington State Online Gambling Commission requiring that we immediately halt the distribution of press releases promoting online gambling sites and content. As PRWeb is located in Washington State, we are required to be in compliance with Washington State laws.”
The news provides a huge blow for both PRWeb and its gambling customers alike, with the ban predicted to effectively shut down 5% of the press organisation’s total business and leave their major clients searching for other means to distribute their gambling news across the internet.
“Our clients’ stories made it to tens of thousands of portals and blogs via PRWeb so this is definitely a bit of a setback, but we’ll survive!” Lyceum Media’s online PR expert Larry Colcy said.
