Former Football Star Christian Vieri to Try His Hand at Poker?
Italian soccer ace Christian Vieri has indicated that there may well be a future for him in the world of professional poker when the 35-year-old striker finally decides to hang up his goal-scoring boots.
However, despite being without a club a since he was released by Serie A side Atlanta earlier in the season, the former Inter Milan forward did concede that he is unlikely to jack in football to become a full-time cardsharp anytime in the immediate future.
“I enjoy cards a lot, but my future is still in football. I will stop when I'm fed up chasing after a ball and I am not bored yet. When I'm retired, who knows, I could become a professional poker player," the star told Sportweek magazine.
Vieri is known to be a big fan of Texas Hold’em and recently returned from playing two tournaments in Los Angeles. He is also expected to be in attendance at the European Poker Tour’s San Remo leg from April 18-23, as well as their Grand Final in Monte Carlo at the end of the month.
"I have always played cards during training camps," revealed Vieri. "I used to play Italian card games, though. I rarely played poker. However, I’ve recently got into Texas Hold'em and it is a wonderful game that really gets you pumped up. I'm having a blast playing at all the tournaments."
