Hippodrome set to re-open as a casino
The Hippodrome in London’s West End is set to re-open in 2011 as a casino and cabaret theatre.
Just metres away from Casino at the Empire, which is enjoying great success in the heart of Leicester Square, the two will be in fierce competition for players.
The Hippodrome, on paper, is set to come out of the starting gates strongly with numerous bars and lounges planned as well as a Michelin starred chef running the restaurants kitchen.
£15 million in ear-marked for the restoration of the Grade-II listed building and many of the original features are to be kept in place and refurbished where needed.
The Hippodrome was first built in 1900 and used as a cabaret restaurant and later on a nightclub but has been left dormant since 2005.
Hippodrome developers hope to provide for a wider audience rather than the hardcore gamblers.
