Christer Johannson wins Paddy Power Poker Irish Open
Swedish pro Christer Johansson took down the 2009 Irish Open in Dublin over Easter, winning a first prize of €600,000.
The 39-year old Swede, who is a well-known online cash game specialist playing under the name of ‘sendmemore’, bested a field of 700 at the Citywest Hotel on the outskirts of Dublin to take the top honours.
Among the many famous faces anteing up for the weekend of action were Dan Harrington, Jamie Gold, the ever-present Phil Laak, Ciaran ‘Big C’ O’Leary, and former champions Marty Smyth and Neil Channing. The drop in buy-in from last year’s event obviously paid dividends, with the number of entrants almost reaching 2007’s record turnout of 706.
TV presenter Kara Scott finished in second place, taking home €312,600, with Andrew Pantling receiving €205,200 for third place and Antanas Gueorguiev winning €163,300 for finishing fourth.
Sixteenth place finisher Marcel Koch became paddypowerpoker.com’s €100,000 Sole Survivor by outlasting more than one hundred other paddypowerpoker.com online qualifiers. In doing so he wins a prize package worth €100,000.
