Councillor jailed for stealing £60k for online poker
Jayne Yeomans was found guilty today at Carlisle Crown Court for stealing more than £60k from a social club she worked at to play poker online.
She was Mayor of Carlisle in the early 90’s but despite her previous record the court slapped her with a 12 month sentence for theft.
Yeomans spun a web of lies to her employers at the South End Constitutional Club to cover her tracks but it would seem even though suspicions were raised she continued to steal money. She even forged her husband signature to remortgage their family home and to apply for a loan of £25k.
Before the court appearance Yeomans reportedly said “At first it was fun, but it made no sense at all because I was useless at it.”
