Betting Roulette: Beyond the obvious.

Roulttee is one of most popular casino games throughout Europe in America. Players are attracted to Roulette because it is strictly game chance requiring no player input once the wheel starts spinning. But even though roulette is a game of chance, there are certain tips players should recognize in order to maximize their odds of winning at this ever popular casino favorite.

You will maximize their enjoyment of roulette if you are familiar with the multitude of bets available on the roulette table. By playing various strategies, you will be able to break up the monotony of betting the standard black or red. By toying with street bets, flirting with corner bets and messing with dozen bets, you can experience the thrill of winning without breaking your wallet.

The most obvious bet on roulette table is the inside bet. To place in inside bet you simply put your chip within the box of a particular number and hope for the best. Inside bets are quite attractive because of their high payout (35 to 1). However, players will quickly learn that to play the inside bet requires a hefty bank roll, because you need the staying power to play for the occasional big win.

A bet that is kinder to your chip stack is the straight bet. Straight bets are any bet made outside the 36 numbered squares on the table. These include first 12, second 12, third 12, and the three rows labeled 2 to 1, which are the dozen bets. They are called dozen bet simply because these bets are wagers on the 12 numbers that make up the row. Similarly, first, second and third 12 are bets on the first, second and third 12 number sets on the table. These first two straight bets pay the winner at 2 to 1.

Other Straight bets are the 1 – 18 and 19 – 36 bets, the even/odd bet and the well known black/red bet. This second set of straight bets pay even money. The attraction of these bets is that you can play these bets a long time with a limited bankroll. And with these bets you’ll find you win about 45% of the time making it a very satisfying way to bet.

Some of less obvious bets on about roulette table include split bets, street bets and quad bets. These bets let you to wager on groups of numbers, spreading your bet over 2 to 4 adjacent numbers. This increases your chances of a win, yet simultaneously reduces your payout odds relatively. For example, a split bet is made by placing your chip on the line that separates two individual numbers allowing either number to bring you a win, but split bets will pay 17 to 1 as opposed to the 35 to 1 would have gotten by playing the inside bet on one number.

Other advanced bets are street bets and quad bets. A street bet pays 11 to 1 and allows your chip to cover three numbers in a vertical route. To make the street bet simply place your chip on the horizontal line that runs across the top of your three numbers. A quad bet, also called a corner bet, allows players to bet on a block of four connected numbers. The bet is made by placing your chip at the intercepting corner of the four boxes. Quad bets pay 8 to 1. Quad beds are very popular roulette bets because they increase the odds of hitting your particular number. But realize that because they only pay 8 to 1 they do not actually increase your statistical advantage.

If quad bets don’t cover enough of the table for you, the casino has devised the Quint Bet. The quint bet pays 6 to 1 and covers the only five-number grouping on the table. The quint bet is played by positioning your chip on the intersection of top horizontal line between the 00 and the 3. Although quint bets are attractive because they cover five numbers, the bet actually favors the house by nearly 7.9 percent, making it the worst bet on the table.

For gamblers that really want to make their chips go a long way, roulette provides the double Street bet it. This bet is made by placing your chip between two adjacent streets and cover all six numbers on those streets. Double Street bets pay 5 to 1.

The final trick to remember is that roulette wheels may be divided into 37 or 38 numbered slots depending on whether there are one or two zeros on the wheel marked 0 and 00. Wheels with 37 numbered slots give the house a 2.7 percent advantage on single number bets while wheels with 38 numbered slots bump the house’s advantage up to 5.6 percent. It is therefore always best to play at a table without the 00 if one is available.

Like in anything else, experience is the best teacher. Go online and play at a free roulette table until you are comfortable enough to play for real. Start off betting small and build yourself up when and as you get more proficient at roulette. You’ll find that roulette is as exciting a game you’ll find in the casino because of its non-stop action and frequent wins. It will only be a few hours before you know every inch of the table.
