No Place Like Home
Apart from coverage from some glamourous (yet thorough) EPTs in Monte Carlo and San Remo and the US Open—golf, that is—in New York, this is a decidedly UK-centric issue on every level. Like it or not, the best place to be in June is in London—just don’t revert to last summer to put a dark cloud this time around. Even if it’s a washout of biblical proportion, there’s too much going on to make any drenching damper the festivities. Case in point is the new roof over Centre Court. It might take some getting used to, but while those poor suckers on Court 1 scramble for cover, you can watch, and bet on, the drama as it unfolds uninterrupted. Across town, the last Grand Prix at Silverstone will certainly finish in style as Lewis Hamilton tries to wrestle the glory from Jenson Button to defend his title. And for good measure, we toast the occasion with a nod to the people who make F1 so exhilarating to follow—the pit girls. And then there’s Ascot and Epsom, which speak for themselves.
Away from sport, we dash up to Manchester for the GUKPT’s fourth leg, as well as welcome Vicky Coren to the GOM contributor stable. This month, she lays out some valuable strategy for multi-table tournaments as the WSOP hits its stride.
And as the long days of summer hit their peak, we celebrate all that’s great in and around the Capital. From music festivals, bars and best summer drinks to galleries, shopping, hotels and, of course, casinos. Umbrellas not included.
