Cake Poker Issue Statement Over Alleged Security Risks

07/29/2010

Following reports carried in yesterday’s news in which PokerTableRatings.com raised concerns over the strength of the security encryption on the Cake network, the company have now released a statement explaining their position.

Poker room manager Lee Jones responded to the claims levelled at the Cake network by revealing that the company had been made aware of the problem and are now striving to resolve the issue, but that customers should not be unduly worried.

“Our development team replicated the described scenario [suggested in yesterday’s reports] and confirmed that a vulnerability exists,” admitted Jones. “We take this very seriously and have mobilised a team of senior engineers to address the problem”.

“We are adding an SSL layer to secure all communication between our servers and the client software,” Jones continued. “We’ve got everybody who can possibly help on this and will get the development and testing jobs completed as soon as possible”.

SSL encryption systems have become the industry-standard for secure data transfer and are used by the majority of online banking sites and other internet businesses handling sensitive credit information. By adopting an additional SSL layer, Cake will hopefully be able to resolve their encryption issues and supply much greater security.

In the meantime, Jones has encouraged Cake players to be vigilant while using their site, suggesting that anti-virus and spyware software detection software should be used regularly and that unsecure wireless connections should largely be avoided in favour of using wired routers and Ethernet cables or password-protected networks.

“For our part, we are totally committed to closing this hole in our server-client communication security and it will be our top priority until it's done. We will update you as soon as there is more to say,” concluded the statement issued by Jones.
