The team at PokerTableRatings.com responsible for revealing major security flaws on the Cereus network a month ago have unearthed another potential risk on the Cake network, it was announced today.

According to the site, there is a very weak encryption on Cake’s poker client that could potentially allow third parties to access sensitive account information shared by the player and the Cake network servers.

Essentially, when a user logs in to play poker, they are directly connected to a server and data such as their username, password and hole cards are exchanged via this connection, with the information protected by encryption.

However, while an SSL protocol encryption is the industry-standard utilised by casino clients and online banking servers, the Cake network uses a custom XOR-based encryption system, which could be decoded using a scientific calculator.

According to PokerTableRatings.com, players who access the server using an unsecure wireless network are most the ones most at risk, so if you are a Cake Poker customer and wish to continue playing before the encryption issue has been properly resolved, be sure to stick to wired networks or a WPA2 encrypted wireless network.
