WSOP Bracelet Winner Claims Online Poker is ‘Rigged’

07/26/2010

Listening to players on a cold run of cards question the integrity of online poker is by no means an unusual occurrence, but for the most part their frustrations are born of inexperience and a lack of a fundamental understanding of variance.

Imagine the surprise among the online poker community then, when a respected live player and 2008 World Series of Poker bracelet winner let rip with a furious tirade against the fairness of internet poker in his latest blog entry just last week.

That’s precisely what happened with Jason ‘JBY’ Young, a 28-year-old bricks and mortar pro with more than $690k in live tournament cashes to his name, after the normally prolific player shipped $35,000 online in the space of two days.

“They are trying to jam it in me around every corner,” Young’s rant began. “This is the biggest joke ever. I’m deleting the word f**k as often as I can, but I’m literally steaming while I write this – broken computer and all!”

Young went on to talk about the disparity between average online players who run like gods and good live poker pros who can’t buy a break online, a phenomenon he explains through ‘hot’ IP address, which act as a lottery and favour certain players.

While Young will no doubt cringe when reading back over his comments in a few months time, it is a refreshing change to see a professional poker player losing his rag and letting off some steam – just like we all do from time to time.
