Fulham to Confirm Martin Jol Appointment this Week?

London-based Premier League outfit Fulham are set to replace departed manager Roy Hodgson with 54-year-old Ajax coach Martin Jol this week, it is widely understood.

The Dutchman, who has managed in the Premier League before between 2004 and 2007 when he was in charge of Tottenham Hotspur, is understood to have had preliminary talks with the Cottagers and will meet officials again later this week.

Although nothing has been finalised, the indications are that Jol’s appointment is pretty much a done deal, meaning that he will get the job ahead of a trio of candidates linked with the job including Sven Goran Eriksson, Ottmar Hitzfeld and Bob Bradley.

No official announcement is set to be made by the club before the squad departs for a 10-day pre-season tour of Sweden today, but Jol is expected to fly out and join the party later on their tour in a bid to get to know the players ahead of the new season.

Jol’s previous connections with Spurs and London make his appointment an ideal one, with the Dutchman already owning a house in England, and it has been suggested that he will be awarded a rolling contract based on Fulham’s league performance.

Despite the London side reaching the Europa League final last year, Jol would actually be taking a step down assuming his Ajax side make it through preliminary qualification for the Champions League, but it is understood that the manager feels he has unfinished business in England after being harshly dismissed by Spurs in 2007.
