Poland to Step-Up Anti Online Gambling Policies

Internet gambling has endured a torrid time of late in Poland. Firstly came the news that the country’s sports minister had been engaged in some dubious activities regarding gambling taxes. Then the Prime Minster made a George Bush style play, declaring war on all that’s unholy in the internet gambling world.

In a somewhat heavy-handed ploy to deter any online gambling activity the government put a block on all online casinos, however, this move was quickly retracted a few weeks later. Other changes are in the offing though and the latest move in the Polish government’s fight against online gambling is to remove any online casino ties from the country’s football association. The people to lose out most heavily in this new regulation are Europe’s leading online casino and poker site, Unibet. Their logo and name will no longer adorn the Polish First League stadium and all further branding across the country will be removed.

While this move may scupper Unibet’s plans for further growth in Poland they still believe that over the last few months their intense advertising has given them a huge client base in the country. Indeed, industry critics now believe that Unibet is the most recognisable online gambling brand in Poland, something that the company’s Head of Marketing in Central and Eastern Europe, Kasia Davies, believes to be true.
