Michael Jackson Hometown, Gary Indiana to propose new land based casino

Lawmakers from Michael Jackson’s hometown, Gary Indiana, are making a last ditch attempt to have a new land based casino authorised in the city. Senator Earline Rogers filed a bill that would force the owners of a floating casino currently operating in the waters of the city to pay $50 million to relocate their premises to an inland gaming site. The bill can’t be put into operation though until the Indiana Gaming Commission first approves the proposals for a new land based casino.

Last month a state committee decided that a new land based casino would be in the city’s best interests as the potential financial boost it could provide would be up to $11 million. Despite the wishes of the local government officials many of the riverboat Indiana casinos have invested heavily in their operations, however, Senator Rogers believes the casino operators would be amenable to a relocation fee. Whether the local casinos go along with this line of thinking is unsure but the city’s Mayor, Rudy Clay, has publically stated that issue of land based casinos is his top priority.

Indeed, the positive economic development it could generate would certainly sway the public vote in his favour if he can force the bill through.
